Barbara's Passions

Seems like I've painted all my life. First of all, I like to draw.
When I wanted to add color, watercolor was the easiest. I never
needed to create large paintings - so I stuck to smaller studies.
When I started to use my computer - the graphic abilities were
such fun and since I consider myself a graphic artist - the use of
the computer was a perfectly compatible tool. Today, I've come
full circle back to drawing and watercolor pencils with computer
back-up.

A Girl and Her Horses

Barbara Weatherwax

After spending the first 50 years of my life on stage, or in the wings, I left Hollywood/Los Angeles for Northern Nevada. My sister said I gave up too much work because I didn't want to leave my horses - why not make horses my work? I was introduced to gaited horses in 1947 - my first riding instructor had Tennessee Walkers - which he called California Walkers - I was spoiled at an early age. In his instructions to us in the ring - he would say "fall off your horses" - so I was never afraid of falling and to this day in my advanced years - I don't have concerns about falling - because I automatically tuck and roll. To answer the question "why am I addicted to horses" because they read a person's soul. As prey animals, they have to be aware at all times of their surroundings and the creatures that are present. Within the herd, the horses all coordinate their heart beats - so as to know when danger might be present. A horse coordinates it's breathing to the rest of the herd - and to its human companion. There is a connection between horse and human that is spiritual as well as physical. Once a person experiences this connection, nothing else can
hold a candle.

New Project Ahead!
